To realize its immense energetic potential as a country with unique natural resources, Brazil is targeting extensive energy investments from an expanding range of domestic and international investors in electricity generation and transmission, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

According to official data from the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, Brazil’s energy sector received almost 500 billion reais (US$85 billion) in investments between 2019 and 2021, including electricity generation, power transmission and new sources of energy.

Fossil fuel projects are expected to gain traction as a result of increasing commodity prices, but renewable energy generation will gain even more attention and attract investments in line with the country's powerful environmental agenda.

This is just the beginning. For Brazil’s vast population of more than 211 million people, access to reliable energy supplies is very important and will remain a key objective for the future. As such, investments in the sector are expected to grow even more next year.

By 2024, it is estimated that wind, solar and gas will see the greatest increases; and hydroelectric plants will see their share fall 5% as other renewable sources and alternative energy sources, such as waste-to-energy and hydrogen, gain even more traction.

In Brazil, energy demand will continue to be one of the largest in the world, producing opportunities for everyone. From investors seeking for conventional sources to those who prefer renewable energy, everyone can find a good match waiting in Brazil in 2022 and beyond.
