Brazil invests in satellite technology to fight crimes in the Amazon

Through high resolution satellite images, the Brazil M.A.I.S. Program supports operations to crackdown on criminal actions in the Legal Amazon. Among the results are the application of more than R$ 750 million in fines, seizures, and repair for environmental damage.

The Brasil M.A.I.S. Program has an investment of R$ 500 million and has assisted in the fulfillment of more than 200 search and seizure warrants, five arrest warrants and 28 arrests. In addition, it generated asset blocks exceeding R$ 330 million.

The actions supported by Brasil M.A.I.S. have already resulted in 327 seized or unused machines, more than 6,000 hectares of embargoed areas and the seizure of 144,000 cubic meters of wood and 1.5 tons of marijuana, in addition to the eradication of more than 1.5 million marijuana plants.
