Federal Government mobilizes resources to support Petrópolis

After the heavy rains that devastated the city of Petrópolis, state of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian government promptly mobilized resources and personnel from its Agencies and the Armed Forces in search and rescue and to support the victims of this tragedy that shook the nation.

The National Civil Defense established a Crisis Cabinet and is working with local Civil Defense teams to rescue victims. The Ministry of Health sent personnel from the National Health System Force, in addition to primary care teams. The Revenue Service donated 12 tons of clothes.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, the National Transport Agency and the Federal Highway Police work to clear roads and guarantee the city's access to the rest of the country. The Secretary of Culture is inspecting historical buildings to ensure the safety of those who live there.

The Ministry of Defense sent multidisciplinary teams of engineers and naval engineers, aircraft, vehicles, ambulances, and first aid staff. Caixa, Brazil's second largest public bank, will set temporary agencies to release emergency funds to mitigate the losses of the victims.
